This review will be brief and perhaps a little harsh. If anyone has been to the River and had a more positive experience than I, they are welcome to post another review. Last Sunday, I went to the River to participate in the tournament they have posted on their website. When I got their, there was no tournament. They seemed perplexed that I expected one just because it was on their website. They began organizing a game of ROE, which is Round of Each, consisting different variants of poker, such as seven-card stud high-low, pot limit Omaha, Razz, etc.
I strongly recommend to my readers that they stick to one variant of poker only while they learn to earn, that being no-limit hold 'em cash games. Switching variants during a session is a good way to reduce the skill edge of better players and make the games more like gambling. It is possible to develop skills to win such games and I have to think that they would consist almost entirely of fish. I believe it would take years to learn that much skill in multiple variants, so I stick to grinding.
As I said, it is a harsh review based on one visit on a Sunday afternoon that was a flop. Your mileage may vary.

Frank, I think you could learn those other games quicker than you think. I agree that Texas Hold 'em, No-limit variety, is the best poker there is, but it's fun to play other games also to keep interested. The games are fishy and you don't need be that much of better player to make money. Only thing is that bad beats are much more common in PLO, or at least it feels that way because you really need what would be considered a monster in hold 'em to get all-in with Omaha. Top pair won't do, too easy to make two pair with four cards in your hand.
